r.vH design is a boutique graphic design firm that is focused solely on the food and drink category.
STUDIO
With this specialization comes a wealth of knowledge both of the industry itself as well as the consumers and targeted clientele. We work with new brands as well as existing companies in need of a re-brand, all with the focus to create a better dining experience and help our clients achieve a strong return on investment. Although we are narrow in terms of the industry we work with, we are broad in the capabilities we offer to our clients. Specifically, we do identity, packaging, menus, web, print collateral, naming, signage, and brand strategy. We have a network of collaborators and vendors who we partner with to appropriately cover all aspects of each project and we hold ourselves to the highest standards of production. Our designs are compelling and unique and have proven to enhance the businesses to which they are attached.
WORKING WITH US
r.vH works with clients in different ways depending on the project, budget, and over-all timing. We most often set up a proposal for each project based on the amount of pieces being designed and our estimation of time that will be spent on the work as well as value we bring to the project. We do some hourly work but mostly for smaller projects or for our ongoing clients. We do some venture based design work as well but only in the rare case that we really believe and partner with the client. In general, once we understand the scope of a project we are better suited to finding a working relationship that is mutually beneficial.
ABOUT R.VH
Robert van Horne is principal and founder of r.vH design. His family has a long standing history in agriculture, starting in 1875 when his ancestor Sherman Stow planted 3,000 lemon trees in Goleta in what is considered the first commercial lemon orchard in the county. The family continues to grow lemons and avocados on the same piece of land. Robert grew up in Santa Barbara, Goleta’s neighbor to the south, and worked throughout his childhood in the restaurant and hospitality industry. He received a bachelor’s degree in English and a minor in Spanish from Middlebury College in 2000. He later went back to school at California College of the Arts to study graphic design and in 2007, took a job with professor Tom Ingalls. It was at Ingalls Design that Robert was mentored in the design of food, wine, and spirits. Robert started his own studio in 2009, taking his knowledge and passion for food and coupling it with his literary and visual design education background to create the eponymous r.vH design.
